New! Raku Workshop (Ages 13+)
Come join us for our new Raku Workshop. Raku is a Japanese firing technique that dates back to the 1500s. In this process, pottery is placed in a trash can filled with newspaper, which catches on fire! The trash can is then closed creating an oxygen-reduction chamber. This results in exquisitely-colored (including metallic), masterpieces!
During weeks 1-3, students will learn basic hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques to create their pottery pieces to be raku fired. Students will then paint their pieces in preparation for the raku firings. Raku Firings will take place during weeks 4-6 at an off-site location. (Location is being finalized but will be within a few blocks of the studio.)
6-Week Raku Workshop cost is $195. This cost includes instruction, 15 lbs of raku clay, paints and all firings. If students purchase extra clay, they will be charged for the extra raku firings based on the size of their pots. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required (which will be applied to the cost of the class).
This is an adult workshop. However, teenagers may join with a parent who is taking the class.
