Perhaps, it’s that unique holiday tradition we partake in as a family – that is indeed the “Most Wonderful” thing about this time of year. So is the art of hand-painting ceramic Christmas trees. It’s been a long-held tradition that’s continued from the time of our grandparents unto this day. How is it that a tradition dating back decades has not only continued up until now but has, in fact, experienced a rebound in renewed interest among younger generations?  “The answer is simple – it’s the hands-on, do-it-yourself craftsmanship that’s involved in the process painting pottery with family and friends, and then having it fired in a kiln, that family members find to be rewarding and they remember the most.” says the staff at the Creative Arts Studio

“The way to develop the best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement.” —Charles Schwab

Team-building- The tried true venture worth investing in…

The Company Dynamic – much like its team counterpart – is greatly impacted by the positive outcomes resulting from teambuilding and team-outing events. A company is only as strongly positioned in the marketplace as are the teams and employees that comprise its organizational infrastructure. Companies who’ve invested in company culture through paying for offsite team-building events or on-site team functions see just how powerful of an impact a little employee fun can have in the way of increased sales and greater customer satisfaction.  This, of course, equates to customer loyalty. Team-building truly is one of the best-performing ventures that today’s top-trending companies continue to invest in. Team-building is one investment that works, with dividends that pay out in unprecedented ways.

When company culture flourishes, brandy loyalty blossoms…
As the company culture flourishes, brand awareness and brand loyalty blossom. Employees proudly wear their company culture like a favorite pair of jeans, when they’re out in public. They become brand ambassadors for the organization, exuding their appreciation for their company naturally, through their words and actions and creating an organic brand following in the process. When the public can relate to a company’s culture, then brand loyalty is certain to transpire. Yes indeed – the company dynamic is greatly improved upon when team-building becomes its priority and pride.

Team-building equates to individual up-building…

The Individual Dynamic is equally, greatly impacted by team-building and team-outing events in the way of personal and professional development. The individuals begin honing in on their interpersonal relationships and social skills. They learn from their team counterparts in a non-critical, unoffensive way because once true teambuilding has become part of the DNA framework of an organization, each employee involved has the best interests of their teammates in mind. Team-building truly equates to individual up-building as much as it does to the group development, collectively. In essence, the act and art of team-building actually help the individual as much as it does the team!

Your company’s greatest assets are right at your immediate disposal – employees!

When personal development is present and professional development presides, employees tend to embark upon ongoing training to further enhance their careers. They begin to become more involved in their company’s success – offering valuable suggestions that have far-reaching, long-lasting results. It could be that the entry-level employee, whose excitement for his or her new job results in a new perspective on how to improve an old process that ends up saving the company millions, could transpire. There’s no shortage of positives that result for the individual who’s part of a great, teambuilding dynamic where individuality is encouraged and camaraderie is created. Well-vested employees both in involvement and interest can be the greatest source of your company’s survival and success. They are the ones doing the job and as such can offer valuable points of feedback to give your organization that much needed leading edge!

Personal development resulting from team development…

In some team-building dynamics, individuals become involved in groups like Toastmasters to hone in their public speaking and presentation skills. In other instances, individuals who’ve benefitted from being part of a great team-building dynamic, find networking events and business mixers like the Successful Thinkers Network, to be an incredible way to build their personal brands and grow their influence in social circles.

The lifeblood of company culture…

Teambuilding and team outings are like the lifeblood of company culture, pumping a freeflow of vibrant energy to the individual parts of the organization, ensuring its health and longevity for years to come. For improved profitability, productivity and brand loyalty, team-building and team-outing events are activities that every forward-thinking company should invest in.

Scaling new success through teambuilding…

These teambuilding functions can have such a positive impact on the company, team and individual dynamics that the organization’s direction is forever altered in an upward-trending, positive direction. When your company makes team-building and team-outings part of their new, Modus Operandi, the benefits that outcome of that decision will be multi-faceted and far-reaching, propelling your organization into new orbits of ongoing, scalable success!

Team-building on near equal par with profit margins…

Related: Team Building and Company Culture Part 2

In corporate circles, Team-building is a subject given near equal precedence on the priority- procession as the subject of profits and loss margins, (PLM) because, according to the experts – Team-Building actually does have an impact on PLM, more so than initially thought. For many companies, great lengths and expense are gone through to ensure there is a form of the corporate camaraderie of sorts, in the workplace.

Team-building, like the right hand of company culture…

This is often described as company culture and it can have an incredibly positive impact on productivity and profits that are scalable enough for companies of every size and industry to buy into. Why then, is company culture so effective one may ask – and of the many multiple choice answers that would all be correct to encircle – Team-Building would be the one option standing out among all others, fully italicized and emboldened because its full impact is multifaceted, far-reaching and layered. Team-building is in some respects, like the right hand of company culture.

Team-building: a multi-tiered beneficial dynamic in the workplace…
At its most fundamental levels – Team-Building in the workplace has a positive impact on the team dynamic, the company dynamic, and the individual dynamic, which adds to its popularity among today’s most profitable and best-loved companies. Some companies go so far as to create selectively job roles such as “Queen of Culture” or “Princess of Culture” designated for one purpose – to improve company culture through Team-Building… This individual then plans and project manages team-outing events, be it in the form of dinners, trips, or cash/prize incentives that all go toward again, improving company culture and strengthening the team at the core. Here’s how team-building events help your organization be more profitable and stay more productive.

Team-building: Meshing well with others…
The Team Dynamic – What the act and art of Team-Building do for the team directly involved has resulted in those very teams taking the top spot in sales’ contests, shortly following their team-building event. The camaraderie so often shared among the team-members after such team-outings has also been shown to improve team-morale, creating a cohesiveness that meshes well with the mixture of personalities comprising today’s top-performing sales’ teams.

Each team member begins to understand his or her team-mate better and it is then that some transformative trends soon surface and take shape: Actionable Accountability and Vested Mutual Interest.
Actionable Accountability is a higher state of professional courtesy achieved when each individual on the team understands clearly the full implications of his or her actions while on the company campus or even off-premise and what those actions can do in the way of development or damage – to the team. This higher caliber form of thinking also transcends thinking of the team, but also that just as the individual impacts the team, so the team impacts the company.
Vested Mutual Interest among team-members is an equally, beneficial outcome that this writer has observed firsthand to have directly transpired because of team-building events. Each team-member sees if you will, the bigger picture in the sense that a) there’s money to be made and opportunities to be won if I do a certain set of actionable items that have been proven to work and with the most desirable results or b) there’s money to be lost and opportunities to be lost if I do a certain set of actions that have been shown to not work with the least desirable results. This Modus Operandi is why team-building outings are so integral to the team dynamic – they help improve from within, manifesting outwardly in a myriad of posiPROductive ways…

Henry Ford said, “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

It’s been our experience that the ultimate success in Team Building and communication development can be found within this quote.

All About Wheel Throwing

Wheel Throwing Classes Art

If you come, it will be built…

The act and art of building something by hand is a trend that’s gaining more popularity among families today. Perhaps, it’s the disconnect from the digital and a reconnect to physical that has attributed to the trend’s continued growth. It really comes down to the fact that people enjoy the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from working with their hands. Yet, it’s not always practical or convenient to take time out to do this, let alone finding the facilities, where building things by hand is allowed.  Enter, the Creative Arts Studio of Royal Oak, Michigan where to build something beautiful and memorable, you have to get your hands dirty, as in wheel-throwing, dirty.

When shape takes form…

Wheel throwing is the process of shaping and forming clay into usable shapes on the pottery wheel. Also, wheel throwing is used for adding the finishing touches to pottery such as lines or designs. As the potter’s wheel spins, small indentations or surface changes are quickly applied to the clay, where the shape and features begin to take form. In wheel throwing, the design applications are as wide and varied as the imagination of the potter.  Here at the Creative Arts Studio near Detroit, Michigan, our potter’s wheel is always spinning, waiting for you to get your hands dirty at designing cool new things!

Wheel Throwing For Kids

The potter’s imprint…

The craftsman of old believed that when they worked with their hands on a project or an object they were actually infusing/adding a piece of themselves into the objects they were working on. It’s as if, they had imprinted a part of themselves onto the object of their creation and that their spirit and essence – live on in their workmanship. While the staff here at the Creative Arts Studio of Royal Oak, Michigan know the objects themselves may be inanimate, it’s the life that’s shaped and spun into them during wheel throwing that does in fact – bear the spirit and essence of the potter.

The reward of working with one’s hands…

If working with your hands on a project or craft has stirred your interest, then wheel throwing is for you! If you’re looking for a new family activity to partake in that will be as rewarding an experience as it is a family-bonding experiment, then wheel-throwing is also for you. If you are looking to satisfy your personal sense of accomplishment, then wheel throwing is equally for you!  The potter’s wheel is always making its rounds at the Creative Arts Studio – Royal Oak, Michigan’s own, public potter’s studio.

Experience family fun in a whole new way…

As this festive, holiday season fast approaches, we invite you and yours out to our studio to experience family fun in an entirely new way. The Creative Arts Studio presents painting and pottery classes to help you hone your hard-earned craft. Our classes are taught by skillful artisans who work closely with new students to provide them a well-rounded grasp on the features and fundamentals of wheel throwing.  By the end of the class, you will know how to create, shape, and design by hand – a pottery piece you can be proud of and one that’s infused with your creative essence…

A Canvas Painting Story

All About Canvas Painting

Galleries around the world tell their stories – the timeless tales of talented artists, who paint their visual worlds on pages of canvas for all to read.  At the stroke of a brush, colors become words that portray the plot in picturesque, prose. Tones, like their plot counterparts – twist and turn the canvas storyline into a superfluity of shades, depicting themes and scenes that only the painter’s brush could design. Each scene, like a panoramic performance, is played out on the canvas – where perspectives are the players, depth depicts dialogue, and texture tells the artist’s, visual tale.

This world is but a canvas to our imagination. Henry David Thoreau

Like a portal peering into the painter’s creative-consciousness, the canvas proudly displays the human experience as characterized by a broad palette of emotional color tones that bring the story to life. The canvas is then the creator’s showcase of master-storytelling, where each stroke sketches a thousand words, and each brush builds up to a climactic close. Upon whence the story concludes, the completed work is a telling of how a blank sheet can become a beautiful canvas of possibility, not through printed words, but through painted worlds…

Canvas Painting

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream. Vincent van Gogh

The majestic worlds created by the canvas masters themselves are beyond imaginable, yet fully believable. Admirers can nearly sense the sting of the frigid canvas’ cold front blowing across the snowbound mountain village scene. Onlookers can almost taste and smell the Thanksgiving turkey being served up on the canvas dining table scene, complete with all the fixings of food, friends, and family fun. Viewers can nearly hear the tonal dynamics of each metal string as they vibrate their signature vibrational frequencies across the canvas wooden soundboard.

Such Mastercrafters of canvas worlds, like the visionary Vincent van Gogh, opened up our eyes to The Starry Night swirling about and above us in all its unrivaled resplendence. We have walked along The Avenue with Oscar Claude Monet, creator of finely crafted canvas realms that have yet to be completely chartered. Then we are swept up by the sounds of Pablo Picasso’s Post-Impressionist universe, where the timeless tunes from The Old Guitarist are still being aired across the canvas‘ color washed wavebands.

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Pablo Picasso

Their canvas like our canvas is their world.  And like they, we pour ourselves into the act and art of creating. It’s as if to create is encoded into our intelligently, intertwined, genetic sequencing. It is this innate need to create, that showcases the zenith of the human emotional experience. This canvas of our own crafting and workmanship is a life lived with creative- ntention.

Just as the master crafters of those still uncharted, canvas worlds gave us a glimpse into their creative consciousness.  We should peer into one of our most innate and core higher callings to create with intention.  Like the masterpieces of old, may your life’s canvas be colored with the broadest pallete of creative intention. Likewise, may you peer through the portal of your own creative consciousness to see the yet uncharted worlds that await your discovery.

Just as there’s a need to create, compelling us forward, there also exists a higher calling, captivating us onward.  It’s a clarion call that still echoes true today.  It’s to create with intent and showcase the best of ourselves to an onlooking world, exhibiting our true higher colors on this canvas display called life…
