This is often described as company culture and it can have an incredibly positive impact on productivity and profits that are scalable enough for companies of every size and industry to buy into. Why then, is company culture so effective one may ask – and of the many multiple choice answers that would all be correct to encircle – Team-Building would be the one option standing out among all others, fully italicized and emboldened because its full impact is multifaceted, far-reaching and layered. Team-building is in some respects, like the right hand of company culture.

Some companies go so far as to create selectively job roles such as “Queen of Culture” or “Princess of Culture” designated for one purpose – to improve company culture through Team-Building… This individual then plans and project manages team-outing events, be it in the form of dinners, trips, or cash/prize incentives that all go toward again, improving company culture and strengthening the team at the core. Team-building: Meshing well with others…
The Team Dynamic – What the act and art of Team-Building do for the team directly involved has resulted in those very teams taking the top spot in sales’ contests, shortly following their team-building event. The camaraderie so often shared among the team-members after such team-outings has also been shown to improve team-morale, creating a cohesiveness that meshes well with the mixture of personalities comprising today’s top-performing sales’ teams.

Each team member begins to understand his or her team-mate better and it is then that some transformative trends soon surface and take shape: Actionable Accountability and Vested Mutual Interest.
Actionable Accountability is a higher state of professional courtesy achieved when each individual on the team understands clearly the full implications of his or her actions while on the company campus or even off-premise and what those actions can do in the way of development or damage – to the team. This higher caliber form of thinking also transcends thinking of the team, but also that just as the individual impacts the team, so the team impacts the company.
Vested Mutual Interest among team-members is an equally, beneficial outcome that this writer has observed firsthand to have directly transpired because of team-building events. Each team-member sees if you will, the bigger picture in the sense that a) there’s money to be made and opportunities to be won if I do a certain set of actionable items that have been proven to work and with the most desirable results or b) there’s money to be lost and opportunities to be lost if I do a certain set of actions that have been shown to not work with the least desirable results. This Modus Operandi is why team-building outings are so integral to the team dynamic – they help improve from within, manifesting outwardly in a myriad of posiPROductive ways…

Art Camp Details:

If school is out you can bet that we’ll be running Art Camp for kids here at the studio! Our week-long session is perfect for young artists of all ages and skill levels. Projects include Pottery Painting, Mosaics, Glass Fusing, Beading, Wheel Throwing, Hand Building with Clay, Canvas Painting, Wax Hands, and more! Each day we’ll create 2 or 3 projects, eat lunch, make friends, and have a whole lot of fun!

  • Try out every project that we offer at the studio and maybe even a few surprises!
  • Ages 6-14 yrs, all skill levels welcome!
  • Instruction and supervision provided by our expert counselors
  • Super fun and artistic atmosphere
  • Sessions run Monday – Friday (unless otherwise specified)
  • Each camp day starts at 11:00 am and ends at 2:30 pm
  • Afternoon Sessions available to add on

Throughout the year, the Creative Arts Studio offers classes to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the creative and visual arts. Classes being offered are mosaics, glass fusing, pottery painting, canvas painting, pallet board painting wheel throwing, and hand building with clay, which cover design and technique applications. CAS instructors are highly skilled artisans, providing decades’ worth of combined experience to help students discover or rediscover their inner artist. Our modern, do-it-yourself facility in beautiful, Royal Oak, Michigan is above all a studio, where creativity is more than encouraged; it is lived and taught.

To those members of our extended artist family, the Creative Arts Studio also welcomes you to our local studio, where you can continue fine-tuning your finishing touch by attending any one of our classes.

Art is Life, Life is Art

  • We offer a variety of classes throughout the year
  • Classes use the same materials as our walk in’s and by appointment projects but are designed with a specific design or technique in mind
  • For the most part, these classes are one-time visits, typically lasting 1-3 hours.
  • Here are are some popular classes in each medium:
  • Pottery Painting
  • Bubble Painting – We teach you how to mix glaze with soap and water and actually blow and paint with bubbles.
  • Tim McPherson Painting Classes – Chicago artist Tim McPherson stops by the studio every few months to teach a technique-driven class. Hits in the past include Jungle Gem Birch Trees, Lotus Blossom Flowers, and a variety of holiday designs.
  • Mommy/Daddy and Me – Meant for toddlers and their parents, we read a story and then create a handprint project related to it. Where the Wild Things Are, Monster Mugs and the Lorax have been popular classes in the past.
  • Ceramic Christmas Tree Painting – Everyone’s Mom or Grandma has a light up, ceramic Christmas Tree. We show you how to blend colors and add special effect snow glaze to make them look just like the real thing.
  • Hand Building with Clay
  • Hand Warmer Mugs – We wrap a slab of clay around a form and create a pocket in the side, big enough to fit your hand. That way when you drink a warm beverage in the Winter and you can keep your hands toasty.
  • Tween Club – Every other Friday night we host a Tween Club. We provide pizza and pop and create handbuilt projects as well as having a bowl thrown on the pottery wheel. Tweens have a blast and parents get a few hours to spend out at the restaurants of beautiful downtown Royal Oak.
  • Glass Fusing
  • Glass Fused Night Lights – Using colored glass and silkscreens, we create usable night lights with super detailed designs. We have tons of designs including flowers, sea life, animals, holiday themes, and much more.
  • Introduction to Glass Fusing – Get an in-depth lesson on the ins and outs of glass fusing. Learn all about the glass making process, firing, and how to properly cut and place your glass.
  • Holiday Themed
  • During the holiday season, we hold a number of handprint classes (handprint Christmas tree and menorah plates)
  • Wheel Throwing 
  • 1 hr private lessons or 6-week classes available
  • Canvas Painting and Pallet Board Painting
  • Organize your own class anytime.  Choose any design from our website.

Tones, like their plot counterparts – twist and turn the canvas storyline into a superfluity of shades, depicting themes and scenes that only the painter’s brush could design. Each scene, like a panoramic performance, is played out on the canvas – where perspectives are the players, depth depicts dialogue, and texture tells the artist’s, visual tale.

The canvas is then the creator’s showcase of master-storytelling, where each stroke sketches a thousand words, and each brush builds up to a climactic close. Upon whence the story concludes, the completed work is a telling of how a blank sheet can become a beautiful canvas of possibility, not through printed words, but through painted worlds…

The majestic worlds created by the canvas masters themselves are beyond imaginable, yet fully believable. Admirers can nearly sense the sting of the frigid canvas’ cold front blowing across the snowbound mountain village scene. Onlookers can almost taste and smell the Thanksgiving turkey being served up on the canvas dining table scene, complete with all the fixings of food, friends, and family fun. Viewers can nearly hear the tonal dynamics of each metal string as they vibrate their signature vibrational frequencies across the canvas wooden soundboard.

Such Mastercrafters of canvas worlds, like the visionary Vincent van Gogh, opened up our eyes to The Starry Night swirling about and above us in all its unrivaled resplendence. We have walked along The Avenue with Oscar Claude Monet, creator of finely crafted canvas realms that have yet to be completely chartered. Then we are swept up by the sounds of Pablo Picasso’s Post-Impressionist universe, where the timeless tunes from The Old Guitarist are still being aired across the canvas‘ color washed wavebands.

Their canvas like our canvas is their world.  And like they, we pour ourselves into the act and art of creating. It’s as if to create is encoded into our intelligently, intertwined, genetic sequencing. It is this innate need to create, that showcases the zenith of the human emotional experience. This canvas of our own crafting and workmanship is a life lived with creative- ntention.

 

Just as the master crafters of those still uncharted, canvas worlds gave us a glimpse into their creative consciousness.  We should peer into one of our most innate and core higher callings to create with intention.  Like the masterpieces of old, may your life’s canvas be colored with the broadest pallete of creative intention. Likewise, may you peer through the portal of your own creative consciousness to see the yet uncharted worlds that await your discovery.

 

Just as there’s a need to create, compelling us forward, there also exists a higher calling, captivating us onward.  It’s a clarion call that still echoes true today.  It’s to create with intent and showcase the best of ourselves to an onlooking world, exhibiting our true higher colors on this canvas display called life…
